What people ask, in order
If yours isn’t here, call and ask. I answer the phone.
What does a flat fee cover?
The documents and meetings listed in the quote, and copies for you. Court, recording, notary and publication costs are separate, and I list them up front.
Will and trust: how do I choose?
Start with what you own and who depends on you. If a will and powers of attorney do the job, that’s what I’ll draw. If a trust fits better, I’ll show you what it adds and what it costs.
Can you visit my parent at home or in care?
Yes. I go to homes, care homes and hospital rooms when a signing can’t wait, and I can meet in the evening.
How do I know my parent can sign?
I meet them alone for a few minutes first. They need to understand what they own, who their family is and what the papers do. If I’m not sure, I’ll say so and we’ll talk about options.
What if my brother and I disagree about our mother’s plan?
I act for the person who hires me. I can explain how each of you is affected, and I’ll tell you when someone else should advise the other.
Do you handle disputes or lawsuits?
No. I draw the papers and settle estates that nobody is contesting. If it becomes a fight, I’ll say so and send you to someone who does that work.
My question is about paying for a care home. Can you help?
I can explain how the papers fit with care planning. For benefits and long-term care financing, I’ll point you to a specialist I trust.
How long does it take to get papers signed?
It depends on how quickly we can settle the choices. A simple plan can move fast; a trust or a large estate takes longer. I’ll give you a range in the quote.
Where do my originals go?
You choose: the office vault, or home. Either way you get copies and a list of where everything is.
How do I pay?
You pay the flat fee in the quote. For probate, fees are paid in stages that I set out in writing at the start.
Left something off the list?
Call, or write a few lines, and I’ll answer myself.
